What is a construction power board?
A construction power board is a temporary electrical panel that supplies a construction site with power during construction, renovation or demolition. The construction power board – also called a site distribution board or construction board – functions as the central distribution point from which electrical installations, machinery and lighting are supplied with safe and stable power.
Construction power boards are typically mounted in robust enclosures (IP44 or higher) to withstand dust, water and mechanical impact. They are available in various sizes, with the most common being 32A construction power boards for smaller construction sites and construction power boards above 63A for larger installations with higher power requirements.
Construction power boards are supplied in sizes up to 1600A and often with multiple meters and sub-meters built in.
Types of construction power boards
Construction power board 32A
A 32A construction power board is suitable for small and medium-sized construction sites where the total power requirement is moderate. The board is typically supplied with a combination of 10A, 16A and 32A socket outlets along with an RCCB for personal protection. It is ideal for renovation projects, extensions and smaller new builds.
Construction power board 63A or larger
For larger construction sites with heavy machinery, cranes or extensive lighting, a 63A construction power board is used. This variant has higher capacity and more outlets that can supply multiple users simultaneously. The 63A construction power board is the standard on professional civil engineering projects, commercial buildings and infrastructure projects.
Construction power board with meter
A construction power board with a meter enables recording of the actual power consumption on the construction site. This is an advantage on projects where multiple contractors share the same supply, or where the client requires documentation of energy consumption during the construction period.
The latest building regulations require registration and documentation of the construction site's climate impact in accordance with BR18 (Life Cycle Assessment, LCA), therefore meters and their placement are more important than before.
Requirements and standards for construction power boards
Construction power boards must meet the requirements of DS/HD 60364-7-704 (installations on construction sites) as well as the general panel standard DS/EN 61439. All construction power boards from Elcor are CE-marked, type-tested and supplied with complete documentation including test protocols and declaration of conformity.
In addition, the Danish Working Environment Authority requires that temporary installations on construction sites must be properly executed with residual current protection (RCCB), correct earthing and clear labelling of all connection points.
